Workshop Overview

In this training, participants will learn how to interpret play themes and behaviors to better understand a child’s internal experiences. This workshop will explore how to connect play observations to developmental and diagnostic frameworks, and how to document progress in clear, clinically meaningful ways that support treatment planning and collaboration with caregivers.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  1. Assess a child’s internal experiences by observing verbal and nonverbal play behaviors.

  2. Identify potential working diagnoses based on intake data, screening results, and play observations.

  3. Utilize play observations to prioritize treatment goals and adapt interventions to the child’s needs.

  4. Develop clinical progress notes that accurately and ethically document play sessions, linking observed behaviors to clinical assessment and treatment planning.

Schedule:

  • 1:30-2:00pm: Registration and Sign-In

  • 2:00-2:45pm: Play Behaviors and Themes in Play Therapy

  • 2:45-3:30pm: Diagnosis and Documentation

  • 3:30-4:00pm: Collaborating with Caregivers, Wrap-up, and Q&A
