Workshop Overview

This workshop provides an overview of ethical termination in play therapy, emphasizing the importance of thoughtfully concluding the therapeutic process. Participants will review the theoretical and ethical foundations of termination, explore developmental and emotional considerations for children, and learn how to effectively use play-based interventions to support closure, reinforce therapeutic gains, and promote healthy processing of feelings for both children and families.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify ethical considerations in play therapy termination.

  2. Explain the role of termination in the play therapy process.

  3. Demonstrate two play therapy interventions for termination sessions.

  4. Develop play therapy strategies to collaborate with caregivers during termination.

  • 2:30 - 3:15pm: Ethics and Termination in Play Therapy

  • 3:15 - 4:00pm: Intervention Practice

  • 4:00 - 4:15pm: Collaboration with Caregivers
